Sabbathsicles

Ruby loves Black Sabbath (with Dio singing. We both agree Ozzy era is no good and if you want to fight us on this, meet us in the street and I hope you have health insurance.)

She also loves popsicles, or as we say in our house "juice pops" because they are straight juice.

Together, they are an unstoppable force of goodness.

Hi, m'am?

If you don't mind not texting while you're driving, all of us in the bike lane would appreciate it. Many thanks.

If I post it, I have to do it, right?

I'm working on a short little book/zine about my summer biking. I started it a month ago, wrote like my hair was on fire for a week, then it all dropped off. I got back to writing yesterday, wrote like my hair was on fire, and I intend on sticking with it and getting this project done because it is a lot of fun and I like to talk about riding bikes. So I am telling you right now, Revolution Summer will go on sale November 17th. Now that I have said it, I have to actually do it right? Right.

I believe it will be about 40 pages, with hand screen printed covers, maybe a sticker involved, or a button. Or something. Not sure. I think it will be cool and you can read about me rubbing chamois butter all over my supposedly-private parts in front of a few hundred people. So if nothing else, you will have that image in your head. And maybe a button.

Ok. I better get to work.

My take at the library

Yesterday I swung by the library on my way to pick up Big Rubes and I did pretty well. Here is what I scored:

Pedal - A photo book about bike messengers that comes with a dvd - by Zephyr, Swoon, Peter Sutherland, and Ken Miller
Moyers on America - Bill Moyers
Soul on Ice - Eldridge Cleaver
and some book on long distance cycling

Started Soul On Ice last night. It is going to be a very conflicted read I can tell already. I'll write a book report when I'm done.

I recently finished up King of The World by David Remnick about Muhammed Ali (and Sonny Liston.) I liked that book a lot.

What are you reading? I'm trying to keep my head in the books instead of on CNN and MSNBC but I'm hooked on this election. I just want it to be over with so I can stop watching TV at night.

Portland, you rascal.

Yesterday I hopped on the newly fendered fixie for the ride to work. I had been feeling it was just about time to refender. It, of course, took me way longer than it should have to get the fenders on, and this included a solid half hour of digging around looking for suitable nuts and bolts. Someday, I swear, I will organize my tools and bits and pieces and whatnot out in that garage.

The whole time I worked on the bike the sun was shining, but ominous clouds kept rolling through. It wasn't feeling like rain, but better I get these things put on when I didn't need em than wait till I did.

Thinking I wasn't going to get rained on I put on jeans and a sweater. Michelle and Ruby were going to go on a ride as well, Michelle on her Peugeot and Rubes on her week old Trail-A-Bike which she is absolutely in love with. We were beyond pleased and relieved when she took to her new whip considering the expensive debacle that was our Burley trailer.

We got a Burley trailer a couple years back thinking what kid wouldn't love being pulled around behind mom and dad in a cute little trailer? What sane, well adapted, healthy child wouldn't love that? From day one Ruby absolutely hated that thing. We thought at first maybe she was just too little or that her ill-fitting helmet was the problem so the trailer sat in our basement for a year and a half. We tried it again recently and Ruby hated it as much or more than ever. Hey, you, wanna buy a Burley trailer?

We were terrified the Trail-A-Bike would meet a similar fate but Ruby loves that thing. Absolutely loves it. And therefore so do Michelle and I.

So Mich and Rubes were headed out for a ride, and I was hitting the road for work, we rode a block together and then went our seperate ways. 12 seconds later the bottom fell out of the sky and I was hiding under a tree on the side of Alberta hoping the downpour would turn into a slight drizzle in a minute or so. It did not and since I was soaked I turned around to head home and get the rainsuit on. As I pulled into the driveway, I find a soaked Ruby and Michelle having returned from their own one block shower.

Portland, you win this one.

I don't want.

I don't want a president or vice president who talks like Gomer Pyle.

Again.
