Yesterday I swung by the library on my way to pick up Big Rubes and I did pretty well. Here is what I scored:
Pedal - A photo book about bike messengers that comes with a dvd - by Zephyr, Swoon, Peter Sutherland, and Ken Miller
Moyers on America - Bill Moyers
Soul on Ice - Eldridge Cleaver
and some book on long distance cycling
Started Soul On Ice last night. It is going to be a very conflicted read I can tell already. I'll write a book report when I'm done.
I recently finished up King of The World by David Remnick about Muhammed Ali (and Sonny Liston.) I liked that book a lot.
What are you reading? I'm trying to keep my head in the books instead of on CNN and MSNBC but I'm hooked on this election. I just want it to be over with so I can stop watching TV at night.
Reindeer Meat Novelty

It's not Christmas without all the trappings of the season. The holly, the
scent of nutmeg, and Rudolph the Dead Ghost Reindeer and his collection of
lurid...
6 people felt it was time to chime in.:
do you own that muhammad ali book? i really want to read it, but it sure ain't at the ashland public library.
the pedal film is probably the best film about NYC bike messengers. for me it was good to see a film about messengers as people and workers, not stylish kids. it's also got some sweet footage of a wreck my old friend suffered during a race. sounds odd, but i think you'll understand when you see it.
i'm currently reading the age of american unreason by susan jacoby, which i recommend highly. as i recommend just how stupid are we?: facing the truth about the american voter by rick shenkman. i think every american should get a copy of the shenkman book when s/he registers to vote.
i also have a few yoga/buddhist books on the "to read" pile. probably not your cuppa tea, though. maybe you'd dig one city by ethan nichtern. look it up.
can you tell i like to talk about books?!
I'm reading The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein and an old feminist novel. I finished Making A Killing by Bob Torres about two months back and had simultaneously been reading Steal This Book, though I'm not positive I actually read the entire last chapter of MaK, I got so caught up in my own thoughts about it. I've also been in zine consumption mode.
My fiction pick of the moment is Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities, which is weird (it's Calvino), but oddly moving.
I've also developed a morbid fascination with finding out precisely why living in the suburbs is so miserable, and I'm reading as my non-fiction choice of the moment Suburban Nation: The Rise of Sprawl and the Decline of the American Dream.
And today, I picked up from the library the graphic novel version of Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States, entitled A People's History of American Empire.
I was reading this really interesting book called Stir the Pot, which is a historical account of Cajun food down here in the Gulf Coast. I had to return it to the library before I wanted to.

I enjoyed Soul on Ice when I read it back in college.
I'm reading a bunch of stuff right now: Check the Technique (liner notes for 36 classic hip-hop albums), The Story of Tea (awesome), The Zen Eye by Sokei-An, Hoi toide on the Outer Banks : the story of the Ocracoke brogue, and Melanie Joy's Strategic Action for Animals.
My Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. It's the third of the Ishmael books. They will change your whole outlook on our civilization.
